Free Final Cut Pro plugin: Alex4D Fade In Out effect

This simple effect fades a clip in and out using fades that last up to 2 seconds.

This works best for connected clips.

Installation

Download this disk image:

It includes an installation script for Spherico’s Motion Template Tool application, if you don’t have it on your Mac, download it. It is a freeware/donationware tool that simplifies effects installation for Final Cut Pro X users. MTT installs effects in the correct folders, creating them if need be. You don’t need to have Motion 5 installed for these effects to work.

Once you have MTT installed on your computer, double-click the ‘Install Alex4D Fade In Out 1.0.mtt’ file.

If you don’t want to use MTT, install these effects in Home / Movies / Motion Templates / Effects / Alex4D:

Simple in execution, but extremely useful. Saves me loads of time. Thanks!

    Hi Alex,
Thanks! Is there any way to create a “solid shadow” like there is in Title 3D? I use it for one client and can’t seem to replicate it in X.

Thanks for these amazing filters and all your hard work!

If you have Apple Motion, you can use the Extrude filter on text for a very similar effect.

Is there a way to change the default fade-in and fade-out times to be 0.5 seconds instead of 1 second? I have about a hundred clips I need to apply this effect to. It would be nice to not have to adjust the times on each one.

Thanks for the plug-in! It works great!

You can change the default value in Motion. If you don’t have Motion, you can download this modified version. (requires Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 or newer)
